Tampa Bay Rays Star Junior Caminero joins local Little Leaguers for special fundraising event

Local teams walk away with more than $2,800 each

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 15, 2026 Local Little Leaguers experienced the thrill of a lifetime when they competed alongside Tampa Bay Rays All-Star Junior Caminero during a fundraising event benefiting their teams.

The second annual Every Hit is a Win with Junior Caminero baseball game, hosted by Suncoast Credit Union, drew dozens of young players and hundreds of spectators on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, at the Shimberg Sports Complex in Tampa.

Players from baseball teams in Citrus Park and Town N' Country spent the evening playing alongside Caminero while helping raise funds for their teams. The teams earned donations for every hit, home run and defensive play. Both teams walked away with $2,850 from Suncoast.

“Watching the excitement of these young athletes was incredible,” said Kevin Johnson, president and CEO of Suncoast Credit Union. “We’re grateful to Junior for helping create unforgettable memories while making a positive impact on local families and our communities.”

Caminero joined the Rays during his MLB debut in 2023 and is now in his fourth season with the team. Since then, he has been named to consecutive MLB All-Star games in 2025 and 2026 and has become one of the Rays’ most impactful players.

“For these kids to meet me, it’s really special for me, and it’s another step where I want to be in my career,” Caminero said.  “It’s really special.”

Caminero gave the young players batting tips and even stepped up to the plate on several occasions, sending balls soaring into the tree line as players and fans cheered.

Suncoast Credit Union and the Tampa Bay Rays partner on community initiatives designed to support youth and families across the state. The Every Hit is a Win with Junior Caminero event combines that commitment with a unique opportunity for young athletes to connect with one of baseball’s brightest stars.
