Description
The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is an evidence-based behavior change program to help participants lower their risk for Type 2 Diabetes. If you have or are at risk for prediabetes, behavior changes such as healthy eating, increased physical activity, and losing just 5-7% of body weight, can help you prevent diabetes. Trained lifestyle coaches lead classes to help participants improve their food choices, incorporate more daily activity, and learn coping skills to maintain weight loss and healthy lifestyle changes.
This one year program meets for 1 hour once a week for 16 weeks to learn strategies for healthy eating and physical activity. Then, participants meet twice a month for 6-8 months to learn how handle day-to-day situations, activity patterns, and eating habits. There is no cost to participate; must be at least 18 years, over-weight, and at high risk for Type 2 Diabetes or have a diagnosis of pre-diabetes by a healthcare provider to participate.
